Longtime Burlington resident, Barbara M. Busby passed away on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Fort Collins, surrounded by her loving family. She was 85 years old. Barbara was born on Aug. 26, 1932, in Goodland, Kan. to Charlie and Bessie (Stuart) Short. She was one of three children born to this union. She attended school in Goodland and graduated from Goodland High School in 1950. She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Burlington. Working at the First Christian booth at the fair was one of her many pastimes she thoroughly enjoyed. Barbara was very active over her lifetime, she enjoyed knitting, going to coffee at McDonald's with her friends, spending time with God's furry little fuzzy animals that she loved, and loved having pretty flowers at her home. One of her most favorite pastimes was watching her grandchildren participate in their high school sports. She was an avid Broncos fan and her favorite color was purple. Her last five years of her life were spent at Clairidge in Fort Collins, were she was loved and cared for by the loving staff there. Barbara met and made many friends there over her five year stay. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Bessie Short, her daughter, Connie Jo, husband, Lyle Busby, her sister, Betty Webb and her brother Gene Short. Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Ronald Busby and Pamela Davis of Dillon, her daughter, Kathy Ann Busby-Carroll of South Dakota, her nephews, Dick (Sara) Short of Goodland, Kan., Bob (Patsy) Short of Sharon Springs, Kan., Mike Short of Goodland, Kan., niece, Peggy (Mike) Hennick of Sharon Springs, Kan., grandchildren, Elizabeth, Thomas, Bo and great-grandchildren, Elijah, Chloe and Oren. Memorials may be made to the or to the First Christian Church in Barbara's memory and may be left at or sent to The Eastern Colorado Bank, 2121 Rose Ave., PO Box 68, Burlington, CO 80807. Memorial services for Barbara were held on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017 at the First Christian Church in Burlington with Pastor Dennis Cherrington officiating.
